Our Mission
Our mission is to save the lives of homeless pets, promote kindness to animals, and advance the highest standards in animal welfare.
Our goal is to create an environment in which all rescued animals are given or found a permanent loving home, safe from abuse, neglect, abandonment, and the threat of euthanasia.
We are determined to increase public awareness of pet overpopulation and the need for responsible pet ownership, including spaying/neutering and wellness care. Let us all come together as kind people so that all our "children with fur" can be happy and safe and have the quality of life that they deserve.
Kind Keeper Animal Rescue was founded in 2014 as a small, private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization by Belinda Mairowicz.
Kind Keeper's mission is to actively rescue dogs and cats that are homeless, at high risk for euthanisia due to shelter over population, and often suffering from medical problems. This includes a high population of newborns, pregnant animals, as well as senior animals. We provide veterinary care, proper nutrition, training, exercise and prepare animals for adoption into the community.
In 2015, Belinda found the land with a building located at 1500 LD Drive in North Myrtle Beach to lease for the shelter site. Next, the arduous tasks of raising money, renovating the building, marketing and ultimately opening the doors to serve the needs of homeless dogs and cats began. Later that year, the first animals were finally accepted into the shelter.
Over the next 4 years, Kind Keeper cared for and found homes for increasing numbers of animals:
Currently we have:
-
10 large kennels for dogs
-
2 whelping rooms for moms and puppies
-
1 intake/observation room with small stacked kennels
-
1 community cat room (capacity 5 large cats or 10 small kittens)
-
1 medical treatment room
-
1 grooming room
-
6 fenced play yards
-
1 covered puppy play porch
-
a combination kitchen/laundry room, dirty utility room, staff/visitor bathroom, office, storage room and 2 sheds for storage on the property
Kind Keeper is not affiliated with any state, county, or local government agencies. We rely mainly on volunteers, donations and our adoption fees to provide income to continue shelter operations. We accept owner surrenders and take animals from several of the surrounding county shelters when we have space, and they are overcrowded and have animals facing euthanasia. There are always more animals in need than available resources to take them in and provide for their care.
